Human remains found in Pittsburgh last weekend have been identified as those a woman who disappeared in January 2020.

Kaylene Oehling, 20, was last seen at a friends house on January 9, 2020, when she left to meet someone. She was expected to return but did not, and she was supposed to babysit younger siblings at her mother’s house the next morning.

According to WTAE, Kaylene texted her mother that morning but never made it to babysit. Her mother reported her missing on January 12.

Last Sunday, hunters in the woods in Pittsburgh’s Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood found a human skull, KDKA said. They called 911, and investigators searched the area and found more remains. On Friday, the medical examiner positively identified them. The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

“All the blood just ran from me. Just hearing them words, ‘Jason, it’s Kaylene, it’s confirmed,’” Kaylene’s father, Jason Oehling, said. “Total shock, just total shock, because you just always hope for a different outcome.”

“As a family, we were never going to give up,” he said.

Allegheny County detectives say they are still investigating and have not named a suspect in what is clearly a suspicious death. But, KDKA reported, the 20-year-old’s ex-boyfriend, Michael Manno, cut a deal with the district attorney last year on a corruption of minors charge. He was accused of sending explicit photographs of Kaylene to her 17-year-old sister after she disappeared, WPXI reported. Manno pleaded no contest to the corruption of minors charge and was sentenced to six months to a year in prison, with a year’s probation after release.

Kaylene’s sister said when Manno was arrested for the photograph that he was the last person to see her.
