A Missouri man has been charged with killing his older brother with a hatchet after police found the dead man with the weapon still buried in his head.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Timothy Fox, 58, with first degree murder and armed criminal action, The Webster-Kirkwood Times reported.

He’s accused of killing 64-year-old Peter Fox with a hatchet at the home the two brothers shared in Webster Grove, a probable cause statement says. The statement says Webster Groves Police found the older man dead on his couch Tuesday morning, with the hatchet still in head and blood splatter everywhere.

They found Timothy Fox in another room, where he “appeared to be heavily intoxicated,” court documents say.

Police said they went to the home at about 9 a.m. Tuesday when Timothy Fox failed to show up for work on Monday or Tuesday. His employer called police for a welfare check.

Fox reportedly asked police, “How did you guys find out about this” and “How did you know he was here” as he was taken into custody.

Police said they had not responded to the home for any domestic disturbances, but Timothy Fox pleaded guilty to an arson charge in 2007 and was sentenced to three years probation.

Fox is being held on a $500,000 bond.
