A Texas mother faces serious allegations after reportedly leaving her 3-year-old child unattended at their apartment to enjoy a night out at local bars with a friend. Justice Lee Moncibaiz is charged with abandoning a child with the intent to return, court documents reveal.

The incident came to light on September 20 when Abilene police were called to an apartment complex on Hartford Street. Concerned neighbors discovered the young child alone and wearing a soiled diaper at the bottom of a staircase. Officers, upon investigation, found the door to the child’s apartment unlocked and no one inside. Fortunately, the child appeared unharmed despite the circumstances.

Police identified Justice Lee Moncibaiz as the resident through mail found in the apartment. When contacted by the authorities, Moncibaiz arrived back at the apartment approximately 40 minutes later. According to the criminal complaint, she initially claimed to have left her child in the care of a relative; however, she failed to provide any contact details for this individual.

Further investigation revealed discrepancies in Moncibaiz’s account. Family members contacted by the police stated they had no knowledge of the relative she mentioned, with some claiming that the person had not been around for years. These conflicting testimonies have added to the gravity of the charges she now faces.

The defendant allegedly claimed she left the child with a relative but could not provide contact information. Other family members said they never heard of the person she identified while others said the relative in question hadn”t been around for years, the complaint reportedly said.

In an interview with detectives a few days later, Moncibaiz allegedly confessed to leaving behind the child. She said she just “needed a night out” and went to a few bars with one of her friends. Cops did not say why they waited more than three months to arrest Moncibaiz.

She was arrested on Wednesday and taken to the Taylor County Jail where she posted a $5,000 bond the following day. It’s unclear when she is next slated to appear in court.
