Morgan Geyser, one of the women previously involved in the near-fatal attack on a classmate to appease the mythical Slender Man, has found herself back in police custody.

Geyser was apprehended on November 24 after authorities reported that she had tampered with her electronic monitoring device and absconded from her group home in Madison, Wisconsin. This device was a requirement of her conditional release, which began in March from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.

According to the Madison Police Department, their search for Geyser concluded once it was confirmed that she had been detained by law enforcement in Illinois. This information was shared in an update later that day, indicating the successful capture.

Prior to her capture, the authorities had issued a public call for assistance, detailing that Geyser had removed her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and left the group home on a Saturday night. This plea, shared on their official Facebook page, included a recent security video image of Geyser and mentioned she was last seen with a companion the night before.

The case traces back to 2014, when Geyser, then just 12 years old, and her friend Anissa Weier, were implicated in luring their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a park in Milwaukee. There, Geyser stabbed Leutner over a dozen times, an act that captured national attention as reported by the Associated Press.

Compounded with Leutner barely surviving the attack, the story gained nation-wide attention after the girls told investigators it was all in order to earn the right to be servants for Slender Man—an online horror character created by Eric Knudson in 2009. Geyser and Weier also claimed they feared Slender Man would harm their families if they didn’t follow through, per the Associated Press.

In a deal with prosecutors, Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and was sent to the psychiatric institute in 2018, avoiding a potential sentence served in prison.

Weier, who authorities said stood by and egged on Geyser during the attack, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide. She was also sent to the psychiatric center and granted release in 2021.
