In a shocking case from Ohio, a 35-year-old woman is facing accusations of attempting to poison her child by injecting human feces into the child’s intravenous port during a hospital stay. The disturbing incident allegedly unfolded earlier this month.
The suspect, identified as Tiffany Marie Lesueur, was arrested on Monday and has been charged with child endangerment, according to court records accessed by Law&Crime.
The alleged crime took place at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, roughly 140 miles southwest of Cleveland. The juvenile was admitted to the hospital on February 6, following injuries suspected to be the result of abuse, as reported by local news outlets WSYX, affiliated with ABC and Fox.
The identity details of the child, including name, age, and gender, have not been disclosed.
On the day of the incident, a hospital staff member reportedly witnessed Lesueur using a syringe to inject an unidentified substance into her child’s IV port. This prompted medical personnel to alert the Columbus Police Department. According to a report by WTVG, an affiliate of ABC and CW in Toledo, hospital staff were instructed to closely monitor Lesueur’s interactions with her child during subsequent visits.
While going through surveillance footage two days later, hospital staffers allegedly saw Lesueur again try to contaminate her child’s IV.
The footage reportedly showed her go into the hospital bathroom carrying a specimen cup. When she exited the restroom, the cup appeared to be filled with fecal matter, WSYX reported. Lesueur allegedly proceeded to mix the fecal matter with a liquid before using a syringe to inject the mixture into the IV line attached to the child’s left hand.
Lesueur made her first appearance in Franklin County Court of Common Pleas on Tuesday where a judge reportedly ordered her to remain in detention on $250,000 bond. Should she post bond, Lesueur is prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with minors. She is currently scheduled to return to court for her preliminary hearing on Feb. 19.
