An Iowa mother faces charges after her infant son tragically died, having been discovered headfirst in a trash can earlier this year in January.
The baby passed away one week following the incident, as reported by WGEM.
According to the criminal complaint, Jaley D. Bush, 28, was visiting a friend when she fell asleep on his bed on January 27, with her baby beside her. She told the officers that upon waking, she found her son in the trash can situated on her side of the bed. She speculated that the infant might have crawled over or around her and fell in while she was asleep.
The complaint further accuses Bush of neglecting to provide the necessary supervision required to protect her infant son, ultimately leading to his demise, as reported by KHQA.
Authorities noted that Bush appeared to be under the influence of drugs when they arrived. She admitted to having taken Klonopin, a benzodiazepine used for anxiety, though she claimed ignorance about the drug’s ownership, according to WGEM. Blood tests later revealed the presence of both benzodiazepine and methamphetamine in her system.
The baby died on February 5 from asphyxia, the complaint said. Bush has been charged with child endangerment resulting in death.
