The investigation continues into the case of a paddleboarder who was found dead at a pond in Maine last week.
WCSH reported that Sunshine Stewart, 48, was found dead at Crawford Pond in Union on July 3. Her death was ruled a homicide, but officials have released few details about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Stewart is believed to have vanished on July 2 from the Mic Mac Campground, where she had been the past few days. Stewart planned to stay on the campgrounds for the summer, but concerns arose the following day when she did not return from paddle boarding.
The campground’s owner, Katherine Lunt, told WCSH that police have been on her property every day, as the pond can only be accessed via the campground or private property.
Meanwhile, a source told the Midwest Villager that Stewart’s car was towed from her home amid the ongoing homicide probe.
No arrests have been made, and Stewart’s cause of death remains undisclosed. According to the publication, Maine State Police are seeking information about any sightings of Stewart or activity around 100 Acre Island between 6 and 9 p.m. on July 2.
