Nancy Grace Investigates: Guthrie’s Disappearance Revives Painful Memories of Fiancé’s Tragic Death

Nancy Grace of CrimeOnline has shared that the vanishing of 84-year-old Arizona resident Nancy Guthrie has stirred up difficult memories of her own tragic past involving the murder of her fiancé, Keith Griffin.

Back in August 1979, Griffin was shot and killed by a colleague at a construction site in Madison, Georgia. This tragic event took place just months before he and Grace were set to elope, during a summer job he was undertaking.

“I didn’t care if I lived or died,” Grace said in an interview with “Hang Out With Sean Hannity.” “Nothing mattered.”

The devastating loss of her fiancé propelled Grace to emerge as one of the nation’s most prominent advocates for victims. Her career path led her to serve as a special prosecutor with the Atlanta-Fulton County District Attorney’s office, where she managed felony cases for almost ten years.

Reflecting on her experience, Grace said, “I felt like going out in the dark in the woods and just howling like an animal. I didn’t have words to say.”

Savannah and Nancy Guthrie

Discussing the case of Nancy Guthrie, Grace noted that seeing Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter, appeal for answers, brought back the intense grief she experienced following Griffin’s untimely death.

“It took me right back to that moment, those horrible moments when I was lying there in the dark. Feeling like howling, because there just were no words, nothing,” Grace said.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 after family members dropped her off at her Catalina Foothills home after dinner.

They reported her missing the following day after she failed to show up for church.

Savannah later said she felt a sense of guilt that her status as a television show host may have led to her mother’s abduction, although at this point, it’s just a theory.

The Guthrie later came under attack online after supposedly failing to pay ransom demands.

“You and I knew at the beginning something was off, in that the ransom was not requested immediately,” Grace told Hannity.

“You take somebody… you want to feed them for a week and then ask for the money? No. You want the money, then you want it to be over with. You want to get the hell out of town.”
