A 30-year-old North Carolina man has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, who died Sunday after being hospitalized early Friday with severe head trauma and bruising all over his body.

The Raleigh News & Observer said that Lance Nolan Pearce was initially charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, but the charges were upgraded after the boy, identified as Jensen Scott Jackson, died.

Emergency medical personnel were callsed to the home on Thursday night to a report of a child having a seizure. He was taken to WakeMed at that time.

The Johnston County Department of Social Services removed two other children, ages 2 and 3, for evaluations at the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Pearce is being held at the Johnston County Detention Center without bond, WTVD reported.
