NEWBERRY, Fla. – Alexander Gareth Gordon, 53, was arrested yesterday on DUI and hit-and-run charges after he allegedly drove under the influence and struck two parked vehicles.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. on October 5, an Alachua County Sheriff’s deputy responded to Woodyard Grill at 102 NW 250th Street. The owner of a silver Nissan told the deputy that a black Lexus SUV had backed into the vehicle and then left the parking lot, heading south on NW 250th Street.
As the deputy traveled to Gordon’s residence, another report was received. The caller said a black Lexus SUV had struck a parked vehicle at Publix, located at 24100 W. Newberry Road.
Both callers reportedly said the Lexus driver smelled of alcohol. The crashes caused property damage, but no one was injured because both vehicles were parked and unoccupied.
The deputy located Gordon outside his home and reportedly saw him exit the black Lexus SUV. According to the deputy, the vehicle was “oddly parked” in the driveway and nearly touching the garage door. After activating the patrol car’s emergency lights and briefly sounding the siren, the deputy instructed Gordon to come to the front of the vehicle. Gordon allegedly responded, “F*** you!” before walking away. When the deputy attempted to stop him, Gordon allegedly tried to pull away.

The deputy reported that Gordon’s speech was slurred and that he appeared unsteady on his feet. After being read his Miranda rights, Gordon reportedly refused to provide a breath, urine, or blood sample. He again declined to provide a sample at the jail.
Gordon faces two counts of DUI with property damage, resisting an officer without violence, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, and DUI with refusal to submit to testing. He has two prior misdemeanor convictions, including one involving violence. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $60,000 and ordered Gordon to wear a transdermal alcohol monitor before his release.
