Nolan Wells’ mother, Christine Wonsley, recently found herself embroiled in a now-concluded inquiry into alleged misconduct.
Following the tragic loss of her 18-year-old son, an anonymous tip prompted the Mississippi Board of Nursing to launch an investigation into Wonsley’s conduct, according to family lawyer Ben Crump.
“Someone is trying to take her nursing license anonymously, without the courage to put a name on it,” Crump alleged in an Aug. 5 message on Instagram. “This is intimidation. This is a warning shot meant to silence a grieving mother who is simply asking what happened to her child.”
Wonsley has since confirmed that the investigation has been finalized and closed.
“This definitely added more hurt to an already devastating time,” she shared on Aug. 5, “because I love my job and I love my patients.”
The Mississippi Board of Nursing maintained discretion about the specifics of Wonsley’s case, refraining from sharing details in their statement.
“Our investigations remain confidential and are not open to subpoena or public record requests,” stated the board on August 6. “Legally, the Board’s role is to ensure public safety, operating on a complaint-driven basis. Consequently, we are mandated to follow through on all filed complaints.”
Crump previously blasted the criticism Christine and husband Elmore Wonsley have faced as they seek answers surrounding their son’s death over the Fourth of July weekend.
“Sick people have been going on [Christine’s] company’s website, giving her negative reviews,” he said in a July 30 press conference shared by the National Urban League. “That is a shame before god. They are just sick, evil people.”
Wells’ family has raised significant questions about the circumstances of Wells’ death, even conducting their own independent autopsy, which listed the cause and manner of death as “undetermined,” according to the Associated Press.
Wells was found dead by a park ranger on July 6, two days after the teenager attended a party on Horn Island.
When asked by Oxygen Aug. 6, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, which serves as the parent agency for the State Medical Examiner’s Office, said they don’t comment on the status or findings of autopsies.
