Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Fatimah Khalilah Naji, 47, of Ocala, was arrested early this morning and charged with burglary and attempted theft after allegedly breaking into her estranged husband’s home and loading items into a U-Haul.

Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a call from the homeowner early this morning; the man said he was not at the residence but saw Naji on a surveillance camera, using a hammer to break a window and enter the home at about 1:10 a.m. She then allegedly took a computer system worth about $1,200 and other items and put them in a U-Haul that was parked in front of the house.

The homeowner said that Naji has not lived at the residence in over three years.

Responding officers reportedly found Naji inside the home, and she reportedly admitted to breaking the window and entering the home. She also reportedly admitted that she took the homeowner’s computer system but said she was entitled to break into the home and take anything because she is still “technically” married to the homeowner.

Officers trespassed Naji from the property on behalf of the homeowner, but she allegedly refused to leave after multiple warnings. She was taken into custody and charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, attempted grand theft from a dwelling, and trespassing after being ordered to leave.

Naji has five local misdemeanor convictions; bail information is currently unavailable.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
