A 24-year-old man from Ohio has been apprehended in Canada following the discovery of his parents’ bodies in their home on Wednesday.
Maxwell L. Anatra is currently detained in Michigan, awaiting extradition proceedings to return him to Ohio, as reported by Crawford County Now.
The situation unfolded when the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a welfare check at a residence in Crestline after a colleague of 61-year-old Lisa Anatra reported her absence from work. Concerned, the colleague went to her home and contacted 911 upon noticing what appeared to be blood, according to WSYZ.
Upon arrival, officers entered the home, where they discovered Lisa Anatra’s body. Additionally, they found a second victim, 63-year-old Matthew Lindsey Anatra, inside a detached garage on the property.
Relatives informed authorities that Maxwell Anatra had been at the residence the previous night but could not be reached by phone thereafter. Investigators quickly determined that he had traveled to Michigan earlier that morning, with indications suggesting he was attempting to flee to Canada.
Detectives obtained a murder warrant for Anatra’s arrest and contacted the federal Department of Homeland Security. Late Wednesday afternoon, they learned that Anatra had been taken into custody by Canadian officials after he crossed the border.
He is being held at the St. Clair County jail on the Ohio murder warrant.
