In a perplexing case from Ohio, a woman was discovered with 17 stab wounds in her home last October, and her husband has claimed it was a suicide.

However, Kyle Long, aged 35, now faces charges for the murder of his wife, Rachel Long, according to WBNS. His arraignment took place Friday morning in Madison County Municipal Court, where his bond was set at $1.5 million.

His defense attorney, Sam Shamansky, passionately asserted his client’s innocence in a dramatic statement.

“This is an incredibly tragic incident for which he is not accountable, only deeply saddened,” Shamansky declared.

Kyle Long made two 911 calls on the night of his wife’s death, initially disconnecting before calling back four minutes later to report that his wife had repeatedly stabbed herself while he was in a different room.

He told arriving deputies that Rachel Long wanted a “separation from marriage.”

But the criminal complaint filed in the case notes Long’s conflicting statements to investigators as well as other inconsistencies.

An autopsy report said that the mother of two suffered at least 17 stab wounds, including “defensive-type wounds” on both of her hands. The wounds conflicted with her husband’s statement that she only had the knife in her right hand.

The friend who was texting with Rachel Long prior to her death said that she never mentioned being suicidal or even angry as they discussed their clothing choices for the upcoming concert.

And when detectives interviewed Kyle Long for a second time, the document says, his answers conflicted with what he said during the first interview.

Long was arrested on Monday after a four-month investigation, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.
