A 36-year-old mother in Indiana and her 41-year-old husband were arrested for allegedly refusing to pick up their 13-year-old daughter from the hospital, with the mother telling a staff social worker she was “not dealing with this s—.”

Amanda D. Osmon, the child’s mother, and Jeffrey Scheda, her stepfather, were taken into custody over the weekend and charged with one count each of neglect of a dependent, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

The incident took place on Saturday at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville hospital, which is about 165 miles southwest of Indianapolis, Evansville NBC affiliate WFIE reported.

According to the report, the teen traveled to the hospital on her own in the afternoon and was admitted for a mental health evaluation check after having an argument with Osmon. Following the evaluation, the hospital social worker made several attempts to contact Osmon, all of which were unsuccessful.

The social worker at about 7 p.m. made contact with Scheda by phone. However, when the social worker asked Scheda to have Osmon call the hospital, he reportedly hung up on her.

The child had already been at the hospital for several hours when the social worker was able to get in touch with Osmon at about 10 p.m., Evansville ABC affiliate WEHT reported. The social worker described the conversation to police as “agitated” and eventually devolved into an argument about who would be coming to the hospital to get the child.
