Stanley Mulvey, aged 67, made a distressing call to dispatchers on Monday, confessing that he had “just stabbed his girlfriend” and expressing a desire to end his own life. As per details from a Stratford Police Department press release, officers responded to the apartment shared by Mulvey and his 62-year-old girlfriend, Megan McShane, after receiving the call around 7 p.m. Upon entry, they found Mulvey positioned over an unresponsive McShane.

Authorities discovered a “large kitchen knife” near McShane’s body in the kitchen, with both individuals “covered in blood.”

Despite police orders to move away from McShane, Mulvey allegedly “refused” to comply, prompting officers to use physical force to separate him from the scene. He was subsequently restrained with handcuffs and placed in a police vehicle, while emergency responders attended to McShane, who was declared deceased at the location.

When Mulvey was asked to get off of McShane, he reportedly “refused” to obey orders from police, who resorted to using physical force to get him off the ground. He was handcuffed and put in a marked car while paramedics tended to McShane, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

While in the car, police said that Mulvey made several statements in which he admitted to killing McShane. The press release noted that Mulvey was convicted on a domestic violence charge in May; the victim in the case was McShane.

Mulvey was booked into jail on $1 million bond after police charged him with murder and interfering with a police officer. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a bond hearing.
