A New York woman was arrested after police said she was intoxicated when her car struck an ambulance.

Edith Cairo, 32, was charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday following an early-morning crash in Bay Shore, New York. The Suffolk County Police Department said Cairo was driving a 2017 Honda Accord at about 2:15 a.m. when she crashed into an ambulance. Members of the Islip Fire Department were reportedly loading an injured patient into the vehicle at the time. Police said another ambulance had to be summoned to the scene.

Authorities said Cairo appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested at the scene without incident. She was taken to Suffolk County’s Third Precinct, where she remained for the rest of the morning.

Cairo was scheduled to appear in court Sunday for her arraignment, police said.
