In Indiana, a young boy has accused his stepbrother of threatening him with a gun while alleging that his father and stepmother failed to intervene during the incident.
Anthony Rybolt and LaTasha Money now face charges of child neglect resulting in bodily harm. This follows a report to the police by Rybolt’s son, who recounted an alleged attack by his stepbrother, Money’s son. Documents reviewed by Law&Crime reveal that the minor and his mother approached authorities in late April. They reported that the stepbrother had strangled the boy before aiming a black 9 mm handgun at his stomach.
In response to the boy’s account of the incident, Rybolt and Money allegedly dismissed it with the remark, “Just don’t kill him.”
The affidavit also details an incident occurring a week prior to the alleged assault. It claims Rybolt and Money coerced the boy into driving another child to St. Augustine, Florida. The purpose was reportedly to hide the child at an undisclosed location to avoid a Child In Need of Services warrant.
Upon returning from the trip, the boy was allegedly pressured by Rybolt and Money to hand over his car keys, so they could continue evading law enforcement. When he refused, the stepbrother allegedly attacked him by jumping on him while he was lying on a bed and strangling him.
The boy was left with “visible red bruising on his neck.” The strangulation reportedly occurred before the stepbrother pointed the loaded gun at him and told him, “I don’t need you anymore.” The minor told police that his father and stepmother were “promoting and inducing” the stepbrother’s behavior by “not stopping” him.
After the altercation, the boy made contact with his aunt to tell her what happened. Witnesses told police that the victim was “upset and afraid” when they spoke with him, and that they saw the bruising on his neck.
On April 28, the minor and his mother reported the alleged incident to police, who arrested Rybolt and Money on Thursday. Both were charged with neglect of a child causing bodily harm. After being booked into the Allen County Jail, both posted $10,000 bond and were released. Rybolt and Money are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 27.
