In an interview with local ABC affiliate KABC, Fontana Police Officer Steve Reed stated that Zamora was in the process of divorcing her estranged husband, 45-year-old Thomas Alberto Tamayo Lizarraga, the man accused of firing the deadly shots.
Lizarraga was shot and killed by an off-duty deputy with the San Bernardino Sheriff”s Office after he opened fire on Zamora, a mother of seven children, and Garduno, a father of four daughters.

According to Reed, Lizarraga had first opened fire on Garduno before turning his gun on Zamora. Reed told KABC that the initial gunfire was heard by several off-duty members of law enforcement who happened to be in the area near the restaurant on Summit Avenue.
The unnamed, off-duty sheriff’s deputy drove toward the source of the sound and exited his vehicle to confront Lizarraga. He then fatally shot Lizarraga.
Zamora and Garduno were taken to the hospital, where they died from their gunshot wounds.
Several sources, including The Huffington Post, reported that Zamora had openly discussed her pending divorce on the Herizon podcast. Zamora, a fitness influencer with around 150,000 Instagram followers, had described the toxic aspects of her relationship with Lizarraga on an episode released on June 16, less than a week before her death.
During the podcast, Zamora discussed how her marriage to Lizarraga — her second marriage — was “falling apart,” describing how her growing popularity as an influencer had a negative impact on their relationship.
Zamora told Herizon host Isene, “Instead of [him] being supportive, [he’s] over here trying to, like, bring me down,” including making disparaging remarks about her appearance. The clip was posted to Instagram with the caption, “With husbands like these, who needs enemies?”
