A resident of Wisconsin faces grave allegations for purportedly attempting to poison her ex-husband. The method? Eye drops surreptitiously added to his beverages.
Jessica Meis, 37, currently sits in the confines of Portage County Jail, detained on a hefty $100,000 bond. She stands charged with aggravated battery intensified by a domestic violence designation, along with two counts related to inserting foreign substances into consumables. According to an in-depth criminal complaint accessed by Law&Crime, Meis’ ex-husband reached out to the Stevens Point Police Department just this Monday, suspicious that Meis may have tried to taint his drink.
The ex-husband relayed to the authorities that since 2021, an array of troubling symptoms had plagued him—constant fatigue, bouts of dizziness, prolonged sleep, and persistent headaches. These baffling symptoms seemed to peak around the period when their divorce was finalized in June 2025. Despite their separation, the former couple continued to share their Stevens Point residence until Meis secured accommodations of her own.
The detailed complaint reveals that Meis reportedly confessed to adding eye drops into her ex-husband’s drinks. Her rationale? To cause him sickness so “he would let [her] take care of him” and nurture a perceived dependency. She allegedly disclosed using Visine in his “Monster brand energy drinks, Propel water beverages, Bubbler drinks, and possibly his old fashioned mix.” Furthermore, Meis mentioned an attempt to introduce Visine into his CPAP machine, although she expressed doubt about its effectiveness.
When asked if she was concerned about her children consuming the Visine-tainted drinks, Meis said “they don’t drink these things.” Police said Meis did not show any remorse for her alleged actions.
Meis was arrested on Tuesday and remains in custody. She is due back in court on July 27.
