An Indiana man allegedly beat his wife to death with a hammer, telling 911 dispatchers — who investigators say he called after committing the alleged act — that “there’s been some violence.”
Terry Ogle, 79, called 911 on Jan. 17 to report the apparent death of his wife, Mary Ogle, 76. Court records obtained by WXIN, a local Fox affiliate, stated that during the call, Ogle told the dispatcher, “I did it,” and that his wife was “deceased,” adding, “Yeah, she’s been down for a while.”
When asked if he wanted to try doing CPR, Ogle reportedly said, “It’s too late.”
When Indianapolis Metropolitan Police arrived at the home, Mary Ogle was laying on her back, covered with a blanket, and bleeding from an injury to her head. Police said in a post on Facebook that she was pronounced dead at the scene by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services. Terry Ogle was also bleeding, according to court records, apparently from a self-inflicted wound to his left wrist. He was taken to the hospital for treatment while placed under police custody.
He was ultimately charged with murder.

Court records stated that Ogle was reportedly openly discussing committing the crime, apparently admitting to “bludgeoning” his wife with a hammer. He reportedly explained, “It’s a long story, I’ve been under depression for a while. So, we weren’t arguing. I just lost it. I think she’s having an affair. So, I lost it.”
He also reportedly texted his daughter to inform her, “I’m going to jail. I killed Mary.”
The Indy Star reported that both Terry and Mary Ogle worked in the education field. Tommy Thompson, public information officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, called the incident “tragic.”
He added, “To fathom a loss like this is just heartbreaking, gutwrenching for this community.”
