Three children in Georgia are facing criminal charges for allegedly scalding a boy with hot water during a sleepover.

The 12-year-old boy from Tifton reportedly suffered second-degree burns on most of his face. His mother told WALB that his son was attending a sleepover at a neighbor’s home when the incident occurred.

The victim was reportedly sleeping when one of the children dumped hot water on him. According to WALB, the boy’s three attackers range in age from 12 to 15.

“He was transported to the burn center in Augusta. He had to have surgery. Of course, he is out of surgery and is recovering at home now. But it is going to take him 12-14 days to heal,” his mother told the news outlet.

The victim’s family said the three other children were charged and released to their families. A hearing is scheduled to take place a month from now.

It is unclear what the three children are charged with.
