Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Raulheim Devontia Dames, 28, was arrested yesterday for aggravated stalking after allegedly stalking an ex-girlfriend over more than seven months.

The victim went to the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) front desk on August 7 to report that Dames had shown up at her residence several times since July 29; she said that on July 29, she would not let him in, so he took her surveillance camera. Since then, he has allegedly called her repeatedly.

On August 11, the victim called 911 to report that Dames was at her home again and threatening to kick the door in. The responding GPD officer reported that he saw Dames fleeing on a bicycle when he arrived, and he reviewed surveillance video from her residence to verify that Dames had been there. Officers established a perimeter and found Dames within the perimeter, wearing the same clothes that were seen on the surveillance video.

Post Miranda, Dames did not want to make any statements.

The victim obtained a domestic violence injunction last August, and on December 24, 2024, Dames allegedly started calling and texting her. On December 29, 2024, he allegedly called her nine times with no caller ID and showed up at her door, with his phone to his ear; the victim answered the call and said she recognized his voice. Dames allegedly asked if she had another man inside her residence, and she reportedly told him to leave and to stop acting crazy.

At about 9 a.m. on January 5, Dames allegedly called her multiple times and then knocked on her bedroom window while calling her; she answered the phone and reportedly said she recognized his voice. He allegedly told her to open the door and let him inside; when she continued to refuse, he allegedly said if she didn’t come outside, he was going to “get really pissed off.” He allegedly said he was going to damage her vehicle, she said she was calling 911, and he left.

A sworn complaint for stalking and violating a domestic violence injunction was filed on January 8; that case was transferred to a felony case when a formal charge of aggravated stalking was filed on May 1. A warrant for Dames’s arrest was issued on May 12.

Dames has been charged with aggravated stalking after an injunction and aggravated domestic stalking. He has three felony convictions (non-violent) and two misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and is facing another misdemeanor stalking case with the same victim. He has served one state prison sentence and was released in March 2023, and he is on probation in Columbia County for property damage.

Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing. Judge Miller-Jones required a GPS monitor if he is released.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
