GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Police have detained 61-year-old Criston Scott Worth Scanland following allegations of attempting to break into an apartment.
Just before midnight on June 13, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were dispatched to The Point Apartments located at 3100 SW 35th Place. The resident reported being startled awake by a loud noise at her sliding glass door, where she found Scanland standing. According to the resident, Scanland demanded that she vacate the premises by 7:00 a.m. and threatened her by saying, “One shot, one kill,” while trying to force the door open.
After being read his Miranda rights, Scanland reportedly confessed to approaching his neighbor’s back door. However, his cooperation waned as he later resorted to using inappropriate language, seemingly attempting to amuse himself.
Scanland faces charges of attempted burglary of an occupied residence. His criminal history includes two felony convictions, both violent, and one non-violent misdemeanor conviction. He is currently on probation for a vehicle burglary offense from 2024. Judge David Kreider has ordered Scanland to be held without bail until a hearing on the State Attorney’s Office motion to keep him in custody until his trial. If the motion is denied, bail will be determined at that hearing.
