A Gainesville woman, Grace Hope Collett, 54, found herself in handcuffs yesterday following accusations of stealing approximately $6,500 worth of tools from a trailer situated at a shopping center on NW 13th Street.
The incident unfolded on the morning of June 15, when a vigilant employee from a retail outlet noticed Collett maneuvering two shopping carts brimming with tools behind the establishment. Sensing something amiss, he promptly alerted the rightful owners of the missing items.
Officers from the Gainesville Police Department arrived at the scene, where the first victim claimed ownership of the tools, which he valued at around $6,500. The second victim confirmed ownership of the trailer from which the tools were taken.
Collett, whose last known address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, now faces charges of burglary of an unoccupied vehicle and grand theft exceeding $5,000. Her criminal history includes one previous felony conviction and six misdemeanor convictions, all non-violent.
