GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dudley Lamont Mackey, 43, was arrested yesterday after deputies say he threatened to shoot a man during a dispute over money Mackey claimed he was owed.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was called at about 10:30 a.m. on September 4 to an armed disturbance in the Southern Pines area, near the 4200 block of SW 20th Avenue. The victim reported that Mackey had been driving by when he stopped, got out of his vehicle, and confronted him about the alleged debt.
The victim told deputies that Mackey then pulled out an altered handgun that appeared to possibly have a “switch” attached and began waving the weapon in the air while threatening to shoot him.
Because he had known Mackey for many years and said he “knew the type of person” Mackey was, the victim told deputies he feared for his life and ran. He said Mackey chased after him, threatening to shoot if he did not stop, but the victim was able to get away and call 911.
Mackey has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court records show he has seven felony convictions, including one violent felony, and 16 misdemeanor convictions, including two violent misdemeanors. He previously served one state prison sentence and was released in 2002. Mackey is also currently on probation for a third or subsequent offense of driving without a valid license. Judge Sheree Lancaster set his bail at $50,000.
