A mother and son from Staten Island, New York, are facing charges from New Jersey police after being arrested in Florida in connection with a fatal street-racing incident last month.

Vilma Vneshta, 42, and her son, Alvi Limani, 20, were both arrested on July 17 in Miami, allegedly as they were attempting to flee the United States. Limani is accused of “operating a BMW X3 recklessly,” causing it to hit two other vehicles and eject two of his passengers in a fatal street-racing crash on New Jersey”s Garden State Parkway on June 29, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.

One of those passengers, 20-year-old Albion Hysenaj, died. Another 21-year-old passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Emily Harrington, 19, was also a passenger in Limani’s BMW X3. According to Ciccone’s press release, she was not ejected from the vehicle and fled the scene on foot with Limani. Harrington was arrested and charged with hindering, obstruction, and conspiracy to endanger another.

Another alleged participant in the race was Jeter Ogando, 23, who was operating a BMW M5 that was involved in the fatal crash. He was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, endangering another, and assault by auto.

Ciccone, along with Colonel Patrick J. Callahan of the New Jersey State Police, stated that following the crash, Limani allegedly flew with Vneshta to Miami with plans to leave the country. Both mother and son were arrested near Miami and taken into custody on July 17, where they were held until they were extradited to New Jersey.

Miami-based NBC affiliate WTVJ reported that when Vneshta and Limani arrived in New Jersey, a TikTok user — @jhongb85 — took video of them deplaning as law enforcement vehicles surrounded the aircraft.

Vneshta was charged with hindering. Her son faces a litany of charges in connection to the crash — aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, causing death while driving with a suspended license, two counts of endangering an injured victim, two counts of endangering, tampering with public records, hindering, knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, assault by auto, and causing serious injury while driving with a suspended license.

All four suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 28.
