The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 31-year-old Stephanie Holt with serious offenses, including failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and committing a felony with a motor vehicle. Authorities allege that Holt was behind the wheel of the car that fatally struck 76-year-old Mary Hulswit. The elderly woman was discovered lifeless at the end of her driveway, marking a somber day for the local community.

Police were called to the scene upon reports of an unresponsive woman, later identified as Hulswit. She exhibited injuries that tragically aligned with being hit by a vehicle, and she was pronounced dead where she lay.

After a thorough investigation, law enforcement officials apprehended Holt, concluding that she had indeed struck Hulswit while reversing out of a driveway. Although specific details surrounding Holt’s arrest have not been disclosed, the case underscores a poignant reminder of the responsibilities of motorists and the devastating consequences of negligence.

Investigators eventually arrested Holt, whom they said “struck the victim while backing out of her driveway.” Details about her arrest were not provided.

On Tuesday, Holt was in Michigan’s 40th District Court for her arraignment, where her bail was set at $100,000 cash with a 10% surety bond. If she posts bail, she is to wear a GPS device and stay away from the scene of the alleged crime. As of Wednesday, Holt was still in custody.

Holt is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 14. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.

Hulswit, a great-grandmother to one child, left behind a husband of 55 years, several siblings, two children, and three grandchildren.
