The children of a woman brutally murdered on a Maryland jogging trail in 2023 have filed a lawsuit against their grandmother and aunt claiming they’ve not seen a dime from online fundraising intended for them.

Rachel Morin was found dead on August 6, 2023, just off the Ma & Pa Trail in Harford County, as CrimeOnline reported. An exhaustive manhunt finally ended in the arrest of Victor Martinez-Hernandez in Oklahoma ten months later. He was convicted of Morin’s murder and will be sentenced in August.

The lawsuit says that a GoFundMe account was set up after Morin’s murder to raise money for funeral expenses with remaining funds to go to her five children, who range in age from 9 to 19, WJZ reports. Nearly $55,000 was raised through that account, the lawsuit says, but the children have not received any of it. The money remains in an account controlled by Morin’s mother, Patty Morin, and her sister, Rebekah Morin.

The suit also says that donated gifts were never given to them.

According to the Baltimore Banner, the lawsuit was filed by Faye McMahon, Morin’s 19-year-old daughter and the executor of her estate, and the fathers of her four younger children, Jonathan Alderson and Joseph Custer.
