On Tuesday, James was formally indicted on charges of murder and felonious assault related to Babiuch’s death in Oregon, Ohio, a city near Toledo, according to court records. The shooting occurred on December 6 at James’ residence on Crestway Drive. Local news station WTVG obtained an arrest report revealing that James had been released from jail just days earlier, on December 2, after serving time for violating parole on prior convictions related to weapons and evidence tampering.
Prior to his release, James had confessed to his parole officer about possessing a firearm, which led to his brief return to jail. Tragically, it was only four days after his release that Babiuch was found dead. Initially, James reportedly told the police that her death was a suicide, but when questioned further, he admitted the only issue was their troubled relationship.
Family members of James have come forward, suggesting that he was deeply upset by allegations that Babiuch had been unfaithful while he was incarcerated. They also mentioned that Babiuch had considered leaving James’ family home, but ultimately chose not to after being persuaded to stay.
He reportedly told police that Babiuch committed suicide. But when pressed about why, he said the only thing wrong was their relationship. James” family members said he was upset that Babiuch had cheated on him when he was behind bars. She previously contemplated leaving the home, which belonged to James’ family, but she was talked out of it.
Cops released James as they investigated but arrested him after a medical examiner determined her death was a homicide.
Babiuch worked for Amazon, her obituary said.
“She was a loving and outspoken friend with a bubbly personality. She loved watching scary movies and fishing with her family,” the obituary said.
James remains at the Wood County Jail without bond. He is awaiting arraignment on the murder charges.
