Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jaishun Mikal Darrien Turner, 24, of Reddick, and two Marion County juveniles — Lynden Maysonet, 14, and Kameryn Nehemiah Copeland, 16 — were charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery after a resident of the Crossing at Santa Fe Apartments was shot on July 30.

At about 8 p.m. on July 30, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Crossing at Santa Fe (3205 NW 83rd Street) and found blood spatter near the door of two apartments. After the victim gave consent to search his apartment, the deputies reported a strong smell of burnt marijuana and a large amount of blood, including two bloody handprints on the carpet. They heard a phone ring and found a phone that belonged to the victim under an overturned chair. A suitcase near the door reportedly contained a large baggie of marijuana, and loose marijuana and unrolled blunts were reportedly found throughout the apartment, along with baggies and scales.

Deputies interviewed the victim at the hospital, and he reported that he was beaten by three males who had been staying at the apartment; he said two of them were his roommate’s cousins, and the third was someone he knew as “Greenlight Sammy.” He knew the juveniles as “Landon or LA” and “Spook.”

The victim said Greenlight Sammy attacked him, and when he fought back, the other two joined in; he said they believed he had a large amount of cash and “weed” in his safe. He said all three males were armed with handguns, and when he tried to grab Greenlight Sammy’s gun, one of the other two said, “Shoot him.” He said at that point, he stopped fighting and let them beat him with their pistols.

The victim said they left him lying on the floor and took his safe, about $40 in cash, and a cell phone. The victim said there was an AirTag in the safe and told deputies how to track it on the phone they found under the chair. The AirTag was found on the side of I-75, just north of Ocala, but the safe was not located; the deputies wrote that they believed the suspects opened the safe, found the AirTag, and tossed it out of the vehicle.

On July 31, deputies learned that the juveniles were cousins of the victim’s roommate and had been staying in the apartment for the past 10 days, but the roommate said he did not know the last names of either of his cousins; the juveniles were reportedly “on the run” from Marion County, but the roommate reportedly said he did not know what they were running from.

Detectives determined that “Greenlight Sammy” is Turner, “Landon” is Maysonet, and “Spook” is Copeland. The victim reportedly picked all three out of photo line-ups.

On August 1, an officer from the Marion County Department of Juvenile Justice called Alachua County Sheriff’s Office to report that Maysonet and Copeland had cut off their ankle monitors and were believed to be staying with the victim’s roommate.

All three suspects have been charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery, and Turner has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Turner has two convictions for possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, and charges of unlawful possession of a firearm were dropped in both of those cases (2018 and 2022); charges of domestic battery and animal cruelty were also dropped in 2022. The warrant for Turner’s arrest recommended holding him without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
