A school bus driver in Florida is in trouble after allegedly pulling a boy’s hair and allowing him to be bullied, police in the Sunshine State say.
Lazaro Treminio, 34, stands accused of child abuse and child neglect over the incidents, according to the Miami Police Department. The boy in question is 6.
Police claim that incident involved the school bus driver intervening in an altercation between the child and his own daughter, according to an arrest report obtained by CBS News. In that instance, the girl allegedly tried to fight the victim when the boy’s older sister put the kibosh on the argument turning physical. Then, Treminio told the boy “never to touch his daughter,” and pulled him by the hair, the victim allegedly told investigators.
The alleged hair-pulling incident occurred on the afternoon of Nov. 20, 2024, somewhere along Northwest Seventh Street, according to Miami-based ABC affiliate WPLG.
In the arrest report, police described the 6-year-old as “very articulate” and said he was able to “differentiate between the truth and a lie.”
The boy told his parents about the inciting incident and the family then reported the allegations on Nov. 21, police say.
The alleged victim said he had previously been bullied, repeatedly. At least once, the boy told police, Treminio was the instigator – allegedly telling other children to bully the 6-year-old.
In one bullying incident recounted by the 6-year-old, another child slammed him to the floor of the bus and the boy hit his head, according to the police report cited by CBS News.
The 10-year-old sister of the alleged victim also firmed up her brother’s narrative, police say. She told investigators about the hair-pulling and other incidents where her sibling was body-slammed by bigger children.
On top of that, the boy’s sister said Treminio allegedly told her to keep quiet and not to tell her parents about what happened on the bus.
Treminio was arrested on Thursday after being pulled over driving his own vehicle during a traffic stop, police said.
As of Friday, the bus driver was detained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $7,500 bond. Jail records, however, do not show an inmate with the defendant’s name as of this writing.
During his initial court appearance, the defendant appeared before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer.
Law&Crime reached out to the Miami Police Department for additional details on this story but no response was immediately forthcoming at the time of publication.
