GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities took Harvey Jamar Davenport Jr., age 52, into custody last night following a bicycle traffic stop. During the encounter, law enforcement discovered 40 grams of fentanyl, a firearm listed as missing from Georgia, as well as quantities of cocaine and marijuana.

The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. on March 24, when a deputy from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office stopped Davenport on his bicycle in the 1000 block of SW 61st Street due to the absence of a rear red reflector. The deputy noted a strong scent of burnt marijuana emanating from both Davenport and his backpack. Davenport allegedly admitted he did not possess a medical marijuana card.

As Davenport reached for his wallet, the deputy observed loose marijuana falling from his pocket.

Upon conducting a probable cause search of Davenport and his belongings, the deputy reportedly uncovered approximately 28 grams of marijuana, 1.7 grams of cocaine, and around 40 grams of fentanyl in both powder and pill forms. Additionally, a loaded 9mm handgun, reported missing in May 2025 in Georgia, was found in his possession.

Davenport has been charged with possession of trafficking quantities of fentanyl, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, and possession of cocaine. He has 13 felony convictions (nonviolent) and eight misdemeanor convictions (one violent). He has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2015. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $380,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
