GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott has issued a response to the recent decision by the Alachua County Commission to send a formal request asking him to cease sharing mugshots on social media. For more details on this decision, you can view our previous coverage via this link.
In his reply, Sheriff Scott did not explicitly agree or refuse to comply with the Commission’s request. Instead, he emphasized his dedication to transparency, stating, “Despite our varied beliefs, values, and viewpoints, nurturing trust is essential for the safety and welfare of our community. Transparency is the cornerstone of trust, which in turn fortifies relationships, fosters community, and ultimately embodies unity.”
Scott expressed his intention to engage in discussions regarding the concerns raised during the recent board meeting. He plans to converse with County Commissioners both individually and collectively, aiming for a shared objective of delivering exemplary service to the community.
In closing, Scott reaffirmed his commitment to transparency through the prudent release of public information. He emphasized that the community deserves to be well-informed and involved in ensuring the safety of Alachua County, pledging to continue working collaboratively towards this aim.
