A man has been sentenced to prison for brutally assaulting his girlfriend, an attack so severe it resulted in a fractured eye socket. Anthony Wayne Worley, aged 62, was convicted on charges of Aggravated Battery, Domestic Battery by Strangulation, False Imprisonment, and Assault. This verdict was announced by the State Attorney from Florida’s 14th Judicial Circuit, as detailed in a recent press release.

The incident took place in October 2024 when Worley and his girlfriend, whose name has not been disclosed, traveled from Georgia to Florida with the intention of finding a new home. According to testimony, the couple had been consuming alcohol when an innocuous compliment from a stranger outside their hotel in Panama City Beach incited Worley’s ire.

As tensions escalated, the situation worsened when Worley’s girlfriend expressed her desire to return to Georgia, further enraging him. Once inside their hotel room, prosecutors recounted that Worley launched a violent assault, repeatedly punching her and attempting to suffocate her with a pillow. The situation turned more dire when Worley allegedly revealed a loaded gun, threatening, “I got one bullet for you and one bullet for me.”

Tragically, the altercation left the victim with a shattered orbital socket and a broken nose, injuries that underscore the brutality of the attack. This case highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and the importance of bringing perpetrators to justice.

During the altercation, Worley broke his girlfriend’s orbital socket—the bones that protect the eyes—and her nose.

Screaming and crying, she briefly escaped her hotel room, per the release, and as Worley dragged her back inside, a stranger intervened, directing her to his room for safety while restraining Worley.

“But for the brave actions of the Good Samaritan responding to her screams for help, there is no way to know what would have happened if the defendant had gotten her back into that room,” Prosecutor Jackson White said in the press release. “Because of his help, we do know the man who beat and threatened to shoot the victim is now facing prison time.”

Worley pleaded not guilty to all the charges, according to court records reviewed by Oxygen.

His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen. Worley’s sentencing date is Feb. 18.
