In Georgia, a woman faces murder charges following the grim discovery of her young daughter’s lifeless body in a reclined chair.
Shannen Grimes, aged 42, is currently incarcerated at the Fulton County Jail. She faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder, child cruelty, possession of a weapon during a felony, and evidence tampering. Prior to her arrest on Tuesday, Grimes received medical attention after attempting suicide.
The incident came to light when Grimes’ sister contacted 911 on November 14, reporting her sister’s suicide attempt. Responding to the call, Sandy Springs Police arrived at Grimes’ residence in the Laurel Grove condominiums, where they found Grimes suffering from a wrist injury. Her 11-year-old daughter, Genesis, was discovered deceased, seated upright in a recliner.
Documents from local station WANF reveal that Grimes’ sister allowed officers entry into the condo. Inside, they found Grimes bleeding on the couch, with Genesis nearby in a recliner, her legs draped with a “blanket or towel.” Officers confirmed Genesis was dead at the scene.
When questioned by police about her daughter’s condition, Grimes reportedly replied, “I happened.”
Upon further investigation, police said there were at least four puncture wounds visible on the girl’s “neck and shoulder” area but “little to no blood.” Police said that it appeared that Genesis had been “cleaned and positioned in the recliner.”
Police said that blood was found throughout the house, including items that were seemingly used to “clean or capture some of the blood,” reportedly “blood-soaked paper towels,” trash cans and a bucket in the living room where Genesis’ body was found. Knives that appeared to be stained with blood were found near the kitchen sink.
According to the warrant, blood-soaked clothing and bedding were found in a box in Grimes’ bedroom, including a shirt that had “holes around the neck and shoulder area.”
While Grimes was in the ambulance on her way to the hospital, she allegedly admitted to police that she stabbed her daughter in the neck.
After being treated at the hospital, Grimes was booked into the Fulton County Jail where no bond amount has been listed.
