Authorities in Florida are currently delving into the tragic circumstances surrounding the “violent death” of a 56-year-old man discovered in a “pool of blood” outside his Bartow residence.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, the victim, Jeffrey Blevins, was engaged in a phone conversation with his mother shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday. During this call, she suddenly heard a thud, indicating he had fallen. Concerned when Blevins failed to respond, she ended the call and promptly contacted her daughter, who resides in the same apartment complex, urging her to check on him, saying, “go find Jeff, it sounds like he’s fallen.”
Acting swiftly, Blevins’ sister went to investigate and discovered her brother in a distressing state, lying in a pool of blood. She immediately dialed 911 for help.
Emergency personnel quickly transported Blevins to Bartow Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Bartow Police Chief Stephen Walker has since sought additional assistance from the sheriff’s office to aid in the investigation, underscoring the seriousness and urgency of the case.
Judd said that Blevins had a domestic violence arrest 30 years earlier and since then, only a driving with a suspended license charges.
The sheriff said the investigation was in its early stages, and more information would be provided when it becomes available.
