Recently released surveillance footage has emerged, reportedly capturing Nick Reiner at a California gas station just before his arrest in connection with the murders of his parents.
According to KABC, the video shows 32-year-old Nick Reiner, clad in a black cap and tracksuit jacket, purchasing a beverage at the convenience store. Shortly after, a man who appears to be a law enforcement officer is seen walking around the store as Reiner waits in line to pay.
In a follow-up video, Reiner is seen walking outside when a Los Angeles police cruiser arrives swiftly. An officer emerges from the vehicle as Reiner raises his hands, leading to his arrest.
Nick Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, accused of killing his parents, Rob and Michelle Reiner. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that he will also confront a special allegation for using a knife in the crime, as reported by The Los Angeles Times.
Although Reiner was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, his attorney, Alan Jackson, indicated that he was not medically cleared to be transported from jail to the Los Angeles County Courthouse. Jackson did not disclose specifics regarding Reiner’s medical condition.
Nick Reiner is accused of killing Rob and Michelle Reiner, 78 and 68, who were reportedly found with stab wounds at their Brentwood home on Sunday. A law enforcement source told The Los Angeles Times that police apprehended him hours later in South Los Angeles near USC.
Hours before the slaying, Nick Reiner allegedly got into an argument with his parents at a Christmas party held by comedian Conan O’Brien. Reports indicated that Rob and Michelle Reiner’s daughter discovered their bodies.
Family friends told The Los Angeles Times that Nick Reiner was staying in a guesthouse on his parents’ property. They also claimed that Michelle Reiner grew increasingly concerned about her son’s mental health in the weeks leading up to her murder.
According to the law enforcement source who spoke with The Los Angeles Times, Nick Reiner is on suicide watch and is under special supervision. He remains jailed without bond.
