Gerhardt Konig, a former anesthesiologist, is currently facing trial on charges of attempted murder and assault after an alleged incident involving his wife on the Pali Puka hiking trail in Honolulu County.
According to earlier reports from CrimeOnline, the 47-year-old Konig is accused of attacking his wife, Arielle Konig, by striking her face with a rock and attempting to push her off a steep cliff during what was supposed to be a romantic outing.
During the trial on Wednesday, Honolulu Police Department’s Corporal Kevin Chun provided testimony, as covered by FOX News Digital. He recounted responding to a 911 call made by hikers who witnessed the couple in a violent altercation.
Corporal Chun described arriving at a scene filled with turmoil, where he found Arielle Konig disoriented and suffering from severe head wounds.
“She was breathing heavily, and her voice sounded weak to me,” Chun reported to the court.
Officer Chauncey Nicola, who also testified Wednesday, stated that he helped locate Gerhardt Konig, who had fled into a grassy area near Nuuanu Pali Drive.
Nicola said he spotted Konig wearing what appeared to be a blood-stained shirt.
A brief chase and struggle, Konig was taken into custody. Officer Riley Borges testified that he assisted in the arrest and helped subdue the defendant.
On Tuesday, Arielle Konig took the stand and recounted how the defendant became enraged when she refused to take a selfie by the cliff’s edge.
Arielle Konig told the court that began walking away when the defendant “grabbed me really forcefully by my upper arms.”
“He said, ‘I’m so f****** sick of this s***, get back over there,’ and he starts pushing me back toward the cliff.”
Gerhardt Konig allegedly told her to “hold still” while he pulled out a syringe and with a closed fist, tried to stab her with it. When she pushed the syringe away, Konig began hitting her in multiple times with a rock.
According to NBC News, Arielle said that in an attempt to defend herself, she squeezed his testicles and bit his upper arm.
A Queen’s Medical Center doctor also testified Tuesday, stating that Arielle arrived with tissue “crushed down to the skull,” Hawaii News Now reports, and rock pieces immersed in her skin.
The doctor added that there was no way to determine how many times she had been hit with the rock.

The defense argued that Arielle attacked her husband first and that he fought back in self-defense.
Arielle Konig filed for divorce in 2025. She is seeking custody of their two young children. The divorce proceedings will continue after the trial, according to Court TV.
The defendant, who has remained behind bars since his arrest, has pleaded not guilty.
