In Wisconsin, a man faces charges of attempted murder after a confrontation with his ex-wife’s companion at a Green Bay bar on Halloween night.
The criminal complaint reveals that the incident began when the victim and a friend visited the Hammer Inn Pub & Grill on October 31. Upon entering, they encountered Robert Goodletson, the friend’s ex-husband, who was already present, according to a report by the Green Bay Gazette. Tensions escalated as Goodletson began shouting at the victim, prompting him to approach for a discussion. It was then that Goodletson allegedly grabbed him aggressively.
The victim managed to escape from Goodletson’s grasp, though he was unsure how he accomplished this, and he made his way outside, only to be informed that he was bleeding.
A witness at the scene had contacted the police to report the stabbing, noting that the suspect had pursued the victim outdoors. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim suffering from multiple severe stab wounds on his side and a significant laceration on his head.
Law enforcement engaged with Goodletson, who was uncooperative at first. Eventually, he was taken into custody, with officers observing blood on his hands and a knife secured in a sheath on his belt.
Goodletson apologized to the officers for “what he had made us go through,” saying he acted in self defense and that the victim was having a relationship with his wife. He also said he had a concealed weapon permit and that “we were lucky that he didn’t kill the guy.”
The complaint says that surveillance video shows Goodletson watching the victim walk through the bar and yell “No f****** way!” as he gets up from his stool and walks “rapidly” to meet the victim.
Goodletson is seen removing his knife from the sheath in the video then stepping toward the victim and shoving him against a wall. The two men struggle before someone pulls Goodletson off the victim and toward the entrance. As he nears the door, Goodletson is seen swinging the knife while people guiding him toward the door step back and yell, “Put it down!”
Goodletson appeared in court on Tuesday and was ordered held on a $250,000 bail. He returns to court on November 18, WLUK said.
