A California woman is now facing serious legal repercussions after an alleged hit-and-run incident that tragically claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy. The incident has captured significant attention due to its heartbreaking nature.
Tiffany Sanchez, aged 32, has been charged with suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run, as reported by The San Diego Union-Tribune. These charges stem from the untimely death of young Hudson O’Loughlin. In addition to these charges, Sanchez is also accused of driving without a valid license.
The tragic event unfolded on January 17, when Hudson was riding his bicycle along Pacific Beach Drive. According to the San Diego Police Department, the child was on a bike path when an SUV, allegedly driven by Sanchez, struck him. Though initially riding with his family, the situation took a devastating turn when Sanchez reportedly accelerated, hitting Hudson once more before fleeing the scene.
Hudson was immediately transported to Rady Children’s Hospital by first responders but, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The community mourns the loss of a young life, and the case continues to highlight concerns over road safety and responsible driving.
First responders rushed Hudson to Rady Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Right after she hit the kid, she ran over him twice,” witness David Morrow told KFMB. “Like, both wheels ran over the kid,” Morrow said. “She stopped right in front for about ten seconds. That’s when I pulled behind her and got her license number, and then she took off.”
Morrow said he had been driving behind Sanchez as he watched the scene unfold.
FOX 5 San Diego reports that the San Diego County Bike Coalition stated that the area where the incident took place is “among the city’s more dangerous streets.”
“We’ve been asking the city for support and funding and helping us install infrastructure that will help calm the traffic and make more people comfortable,” resident David Cuthell said, according to KPBS.
Sanchez is scheduled for an arraignment on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been established to help the family with expenses.
