In a startling incident in North Carolina, a man is accused of opening fire on an Amazon delivery driver who mistakenly approached his driveway. This unsettling event unfolded when Sidney Pittman, 23, allegedly discharged a shotgun at Tashika Trimble, a temporary delivery driver for Amazon, mistaking her presence at his residence as a threat. Pittman has since been released on bond, facing charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and damaging personal property.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office provided details of the incident, specifying that Trimble, accompanied by her 16-year-old son, arrived at Pittman’s home on December 14 at approximately 9:30 p.m. Pittman reportedly answered the door and informed Trimble of her error, prompting her to leave the property. It was as she was backing out of the driveway that Pittman allegedly fired his weapon at her vehicle.
Following the incident, Trimble shared her account during a gathering organized by local civil rights activists, as documented by the Richmond Observer. She recounted, “GPS directed me to an address, and we turned into the driveway.” Her son, noticing Pittman and another individual inside the house, advised her to remain inside the car.
Trimble explained that after realizing her mistake, she had a brief exchange with Pittman and proceeded to leave. As she was about to drive away to the correct address, she heard a gunshot and felt debris hitting her car. In her words to the Richmond Observer, she recounted, “I put my car in drive… just about to move a little, we hear a shot, I hear little pricks hitting the car. I didn’t know where it was coming from. So… I grab my gun, I looked left to right and my son was like, ‘Mama, no. Just go.’ So, I left.”
Trimble said that she had a brief encounter with Pittman before confirming she had the wrong address and leaving. Once she was back in her car, she found the correct address and went to leave. She told the Richmond Observer, “I put my car in drive… just about to move a little, we hear a shot, I hear little pricks hitting the car. I didn’t know where it was coming from. So… I grab my gun, I looked left to right and my son was like, ‘Mama, no. Just go.’ So, I left.”
She said she was able to deliver the package.
According to local NBC affiliate WCNC, Trimble called for help after the shooting. Sheriff’s deputies responded to Pittman’s address on Dec. 15 and questioned him. While at his home, they arrested him and found the shotgun he allegedly used to fire at Trimble’s car.
The sheriff’s office said they were also investigating purported racist comments Pittman made on social media after the alleged shooting, but those comments have not been verified.
Pittman was booked into the Richmond County Jail and posted $200,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8, 2026.
