In Pennsylvania, a mother faces accusations of leaving her 4-month-old baby improperly restrained in the front seat of her car while she went shopping at Walmart.

According to court documents reviewed by Law&Crime, 42-year-old Tina DeCarla has been charged with child endangerment and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. Her bail has been set at $100,000.

The incident occurred on January 10 around 3:49 p.m., when DeCarla parked her vehicle at the Walmart on Valley Gate Drive in Warrington, a suburb of Philadelphia. The Warrington Township Police Department reported that she exited her car and entered the store six minutes later.

While she was shopping, a customer noticed an infant asleep in the car, improperly restrained in a forward-facing position in the front seat, according to the police. DeCarla returned to her vehicle over 20 minutes later.

The witness reportedly requested that DeCarla wait for the police to arrive, but she left the scene before officers could get there. Following an investigation, authorities issued a warrant for her arrest.

Six days later, officers arrived at DeCarla’s home in Warminster, about 5 miles away from the Walmart, and took her into custody. Police noted that at the time of her arrest, “DeCarla was also found to have an active warrant” issued by detectives in Bucks County.

Court records show that DeCarla faces other charges including perjury, tampering with a public record, and forgery.

The defendant is being held in the Bucks County Correctional Facility. As part of her bail conditions, she was ordered to cooperate with Bucks County Children and Youth Services and to have no contact with her baby. As of Tuesday, authorities said she was unable to post bail.

In the case involving Walmart, DeCarla is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 9.
