A man from Spartanburg, South Carolina, found himself in police custody on Saturday, facing charges of domestic violence against his wife.
Authorities were called to a residence in Spartanburg on Saturday afternoon, where they encountered a woman alleging that her husband, 68-year-old Michael Disantos, threatened her after she smoked his last cigarette, as reported by WHNS. The situation escalated when she confiscated his car keys, fearing he was too intoxicated to drive for more cigarettes.
This led to Disantos allegedly striking her in the face. Upon arrival at a neighbor’s house, where she sought refuge, officers observed visible blood and bruising on her face.
Police then approached the Disantos residence to question Michael Disantos. Initially, he denied any physical altercation or threats towards his wife, expressing his frustration over her consuming his alcohol and cigarettes and denying him access to them. Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him and his inability to stand upright.
Ultimately, Disantos confessed to hitting his wife. Officers discovered evidence of blood on his knuckles and traces leading to the kitchen floor.
The wife also told police that her husband was angry because she wanted him to seek treatment for his alcoholism.
Disantos was charged with third degree domestic violence and was ordered held on a $1,500 bond with orders to stay away from his wife if he’s released, Law&Crime reported. He returns to court in February.
