ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Jasmine Marie Marrero, also known as Marrera, aged 31, found herself in police custody last night after being accused of assaulting a man, damaging property, and pursuing the individual with a knife.
On the evening of January 18, around 9 p.m., deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a home, the location of which remains undisclosed. The victim recounted that an argument escalated when Marrero began striking him. According to the deputies, Marrero retrieved a serrated knife from a knife block and advanced toward the victim, compelling him to seek refuge in a bedroom, trying desperately to secure the door. Marrero allegedly kicked through the door, forcing her way in before pursuing the victim outdoors, knife in hand. Eventually, she ceased the pursuit, re-entered the house, and locked the door behind her. It was from outside that the victim made the emergency call to 911.
The deputies observed physical evidence supporting the victim’s claims: he bore redness and marks consistent with being hit, and the bedroom door displayed a noticeable hole at its base, with its hinges showing signs of forceful entry. The knife described by the victim was reportedly located in the knife block as well.
After being read her Miranda rights, Marrero admitted to following the victim into the bedroom, breaking through the door, and chasing him outside. However, she denied ever wielding a knife during the incident.
Marrero has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. She has no local criminal history, and Judge Sean Brewer set bail at $40,000.
