A harrowing incident unfolded at Fort Gordon Army Base in Augusta, Georgia, when a U.S. Army National Guardsman, recently back from drill duty, fatally shot a man he discovered in bed with his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child.
Natravien Landry, aged 27, admitted guilt to a charge of second-degree murder for the killing of U.S. Army Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. This tragic event took place at the military base, formerly known as Fort Eisenhower. Landry now faces a potential life sentence, with a mandatory minimum of 10 years of incarceration, as per judicial records.
The fatal encounter occurred on December 14, 2024, around 7:30 a.m., within an apartment complex situated on the base. According to the probable cause arrest affidavit, Landry, having reported for drill duty earlier that morning, was on a break when he made his way to the woman’s residence.
An eyewitness recounted that upon arrival, still donned in his military uniform, Landry inquired about the ownership of a black truck parked outside the apartment. Seizing the moment when the front door was opened, he forced his way inside.
Inside, Landry made a beeline for the bedroom, where he confronted Stewart, who was then in a relationship with the woman. As per her account, they were asleep when the disturbance erupted. Landry struck Stewart multiple times with a firearm before shooting him. The wounded Stewart managed to stagger out of the bedroom but ultimately collapsed down the stairs.
Paramedics rushed him to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Landry fled the scene and was later arrested after a traffic stop. He threw the gun out of the window. His military uniform was in the car.
Landry admitted to shooting Stewart in a Mirandized interview. The woman at the center of the ordeal told investigators that Landry was jealous of Stewart.
Rasheika Jones, Stewart’s sister, said in a GoFundMe account description her brother was “viciously murdered.” He left behind a 5-year-old son who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
“Andre was a young man starting to build his life,” she wrote.
A sentencing date for Landry has yet to be set.
