A Utah resident is facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually abusing his four grandchildren, following an extensive investigation spanning several months.
Earlier this year, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) received disturbing reports in January about a 74-year-old man from Saratoga Springs. The allegations stated that he had sexually abused his grandchildren, who were between four and six years old at the time. Additionally, the report included claims of inappropriate behavior towards his daughter, who has Down syndrome, as reported by KTVX.
Along with the investigation by Child Services, the local police delved into accusations that the man had confessed to his son and daughter-in-law about his abusive actions. It was alleged that he admitted to having a long history of abuse and attraction to females of all ages.
In a message sent after being confronted by his family, the man reportedly said, “In my weakness, he told me there is no harm in a little of this and a little of that. Once the dam I built was breached, the breach grew little by little … I’m now facing 15 years to life in prison,” according to KTVX.
Authorities who executed a search warrant discovered additional evidence on the man’s phone and in his journal, which reportedly contained further details of his criminal activities.
In the journal, the man allegedly wrote about touching little girls a decade earlier — recounting how he touched his nieces and other little girls as he sat on his lap. He also wrote that he would expose his genitals while they were on his lap, KTVX reported.
According to the news outlet, the man also recalled being a student at Brigham Young University when he had a child touch his genitals.
Most recently, the man allegedly wrote about whether he would let his disabled daughter speak with Child Services about the abuse she suffered at his hands.
The man, who was not identified to protect the victims’ identities, is not in custody. However, KTVX reported that a no-bail warrant was issued for his arrest.
