Antonio Brown, a former NFL standout, has been apprehended in Dubai and brought back to the United States, facing serious charges of attempted murder related to a shooting at a celebrity boxing event in Miami this past May.

According to Miami police representative Mike Vega, the 37-year-old ex-wide receiver is currently detained in New Jersey as he awaits transfer to Florida, ESPN shared.

The reasons for his temporary stop in New Jersey remain unclear. Brown has seemingly been residing in Dubai for a while, as suggested by multiple posts he has shared on social media from the city over recent months.

The arrest warrant details that Brown attended a boxing match on May 16, during which he allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu. Reports claim he seized a firearm from a security officer and discharged it twice, grazing Nantambu’s neck.

Following the incident, Brown was briefly detained but released after several hours. He later took to social media to claim he was “attacked by multiple individuals attempting to rob me and inflict harm.”

“Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me,” he wrote. “I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED. I will be talking to my legal council and attorneys on pressing charges on the individuals that jumped me.”

The video in question showed Brown fighting with several people, and gunshots are heard in the video.

The warrant charges Brown with attempted second degree murder.

Brown spent 12 year in the National Football League, most of that time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He last played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, when he took his jersey, shoulder pads, and gloves and ran off the field during a game with the New York Jets. The Buccaneers released him after the incident, effectively ending his career.

He has also had several run-ins with law enforcement over the years, including several domestic violence charges, failure to pay child support, and battery of a moving truck driver.
