Dr. Teresa Sievers, a respected and admired medical doctor, set off on a family vacation with her husband and two young daughters, visiting relatives out of state.
Returning alone to their Florida home, Teresa left her family in Connecticut, planning to get back to work the following morning. When she failed to appear at her clinic, her husband, Mark Sievers, grew concerned and asked a co-worker to check on her at their house.
Tragically, Dr. Sievers was discovered murdered in her kitchen, still dressed in the clothes and high heels she had worn from the airport the previous night. The scene was horrific, with blood everywhere and a hammer lying nearby.
Authorities later charged Mark Sievers with orchestrating his wife’s murder, alleging he enlisted his childhood friend, Curtis Wayne Wright, to carry out the crime.
Wright admitted to second-degree murder and agreed to testify against Mark in exchange for a plea deal. Mark Sievers was found guilty and sentenced to death, a decision he is now appealing.
