In St. Cloud, Florida, a devoted mother has enlisted round-the-clock nursing assistance to care for her teenage daughter, who faces significant physical and developmental challenges.

The 18-year-old daughter is non-verbal, quadriplegic, and suffers from cerebral palsy, with limited vision. To ensure her needs are met at all times, the family employs nurses who work in 12-hour shifts, covering the hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., all within their St. Cloud residence.

On a routine Saturday morning, the mother noticed unsettling red scratches on her daughter’s mouth and eyelid, scratches that were absent the night before. Given her daughter’s condition, self-inflicted scratches are not possible, prompting the mother to review surveillance footage from the previous night. Disturbed by what she discovered, she immediately contacted the police.

The nurse on duty during this time was Nia Ayers, a 24-year-old Licensed Practical Nurse who had been providing overnight care for the girl from Friday night into Saturday morning for over a year.

Ayers has been practicing as a licensed nurse since 2021, maintaining a spotless record without any disciplinary actions or complaints throughout her career.
